I offer two distinct styles of teaching to my piano players, and often blend the two to meet my students exactly where they want to be.

  • Learning to read notes, rhythms, fingerings, and executing them as they were intended is the more traditional approach. We work from sheets of music or books that are skill-level appropriate as a means to learn more about the piano and music as a whole. This allows the player to sit down any time, anywhere, and play the pieces they have in their memory banks, or acquire new ones at their own pace.

  • We can also pick apart, examine, and learn about the music that we want to play in order that we can understand it well enough to play whatever we want. It's heavier on music theory but also lends itself to a more intimate understanding of music as an art form. With this skill set, and a piano, you'll only be limited by what you can imagine.

Both methods cover a broad spectrum of musical concepts, knowledge, and have a lot of overlap. Rest assured, both will leave you with enough know-how that when we're done, you'll be able to pursue whatever music you’d like.
